Traction Circle Club Trackday on 21 July 2008

After knowing the tricks on the tyre pressure for A048, I headed to Sepang again to try out the new setting. TCC was blessed with a nice cloudy weather for the whole four hours and furthermore the number of cars enrolled for the track was only around 60.

The immediate feel I got for running A048 with lower tyre pressure than last track session was very positive. There were grip improvements on corner entry and exits. I was even able to go 10Km/hr higher at turn 5. I am begining to appreciate this tyre already.

As I was just begining to understand how to use semi-slicks, I will continue to explore and hopefully make use of it to reduce at least 3 seconds off my best track timing set when using the RT615. Besides tyres, I also noticed that the way I corner turn 10 and 14 was not executed well. However, I already knew my mistakes after watching my video and thinking about it. I will focus on these 2 corners for the next track day planned after August.

21 July 2008 - Best Lap:

If you prefer to watch it in YouTube, Click here

This was my best lap recorded at 2:46:19. It was about slighty more than a second shorter than the timing of the previous track day. Some minor changes involves breaking harder to have better corner entry at turn 2, 4, 7 and 9.

Hi Ronald,

Can share how you create the timer on the track video? Thanks.

Hi Ronald,

Well done. Your lines are great. Turn 1 you are too tight. Make use of the space a little and don't have to take so much space to your left. After turn 1, gradually go for turn 2 and ready to put power upon exit. Turn 7 and 8 is excellent and you do realize that you are under power (or carry less speed) because you hit T8 apex too early. If you carry more speed into T7 and power early, you will clip past T8 apex as you exit.

You are smooth. The next improvement is the braking and you should be doing a 2.44. That's should be a very respectable timing for a stock engine DC5.

Hi Kelvin, I posted the tricks to add in timecode in the youtube comments.

Fred, noted on your comment on turn 1. I think I turned a little tight at T14 also. I will try a wider apporach on the next track day. T14 would be more difficult to do as taking wider line means less straight line for braking.

As for braking, you're right! I haven't been breaking hard on some of the corners. I will contine to fine tune those. I believe 2.44 would be possible if managed to drive properly. At the mean time, that'll be my target to aim for.
