Traction Circle Club Trackday on 3rd Feb 2007

Target : To lap in 2:52 min

Car : Integra Type R DC5

Parts : Fujitsubo RM01A exhaust

Tyres : Falken RT615

Track : Sepang F1 Circuit (Malaysia)

Situation : I convoyed to Sepang together with a colleague driving Lagacy GT and Daniel who was driving a 2 months old STi that we met in Gelang Patah Petronas after the Tuas check point. We reached Sepang at around 10:45am in the morning. The traffic was good and totally no complains for the weather either. In my mind, I was only thinking about clocking the target timing I set for the day. My thoughts at that moment was: if I cannot do it on this fine weather, I will not have any excuses for that.

I spent about half an hour setting up the tripod in my car, trying to set the DVCam in the best possible angle to capture as many parameters as possible to include the windscreen, gauges and meters. After that, we eagerly waited for the registration to begin and also the safety brief. The track opened at around 1pm and the fun began.

Result : We had good weather most of the time and only about 30 minutes of very light drizzling near the end of the track session. The few drops of water does not affect the fun at all as my RT615 tyres were still able to hold the ground. It was totally fun.

I lapped about 20 rounds in total, clocking quite consistent timing, in my opinion. Personally, I feeled good about the speed and improvements at some of the corners that I had mistakes on the last trackday recorded on my DVCam (Get a DVCam, it is really useful). So, did I hit the goal of 2:52 mins? Watch the video below to find out. :)

Best lap of the day:

This video was taken during the last lap of the track session. I am quite happy with the mounting angle and the views looks great as it captured the gauges and the speedo. This provides me the info on the speed of the car at differnet segments of the track. It will be perfect if the steering wheel did not cover the tachometer as I will be able to track the gearing and rpm before corner entry. From the video, I still can spot rooms for improvement in terms of lap timing with this relatively stock setup of the car. I will try to correct those on the next track day.

I am eagerly waiting for the arrival of my Ohlins DFV coilovers to arrive this month and see what it can do the timing for the next trackday on 3rd March 2007. (Hope it won't go worse)
